Trend Alert: The Slip Dress

A statement making piece no matter how you wear it, the slip dress has turned heads for decades and has no plans on stopping. No longer consigned to the lingerie fashion category the simple slip has made the jump to full on outerwear and the fashion world loves it! With  no sign of the trend stopping we hear at Hothouse reckon its got to be a staple pieces in everyone fashionistas wardrobe.

The slip dress was originally an undergarment or lining typically bias cut with spaghetti straps. As part of the 1990's underwear as outerwear trend the dress made its catwalk debut with Dior. Since then designers have experimented with fabrics, cuts, and hemlines to constantly reinvent the simple slip.

Originally rocked by the likes of Kate Moss, Princess Diana and Gwyneth Paltrow in the 90's, the next generation of stars such as Kendall and Kylie Jenner along with Rihanna and Victoria Beckham have added there own little twist to the look making it fresh, fun and sexy as ever. We particularly love how Kendall pairs hers with a plain white tee making the look that bit more wearable while Rihannas fur coat adds a serious amount of glamour to her outfit.

Spotted on the catwalks of Alaxander Macqueen, Victoria Beckham, Versace, Koche, Dries Von Norteen and The Row the trend is one loved by many.

Thinking of taking on the trend yourself? Her are our top picks from both designer and high-street. Our top tips are to do like Kendall and pair with a plain white tee for a 90's grunge feel or add a cute box bag and a pair of sky high barely there heals to create the ultimate 90's supermodel look a la Ms Moss.
